Shilpgram Village
Just a few km from Udaipur we reach Shilpgram, a place where one can see the art and craft from all over India. It is an ethnic village where artisans come from different parts of India and display their Indigenous art and craft.There is an open air Amphitheatre and every evening there are some cultural programs taking place. Moreover, the folk/Classical artists from different parts of the country also come here.
The main attraction of the village are the various primitive style of huts, houses, and Havelies. These are from Gujrat, Maharashtra, Northeastern states, South of India and of course form Rajasthan too. One can go inside and see how architecturally rich are these houses are from a basic farmer to rich landlords of those days.
Some of the huts are duplex with full of ventilation, kitchen with many shelves and chimney, storeroom and dressing rooms. They have a plastering of cow dung and roof with quicklime. In addition, the porch and exteriors look beautiful with warli art of the tribe.
Shilpgram Festival
The Shilpgram Festival is organised every year from 21 December to 31 December and is the best time to visit and do shopping. The festival runs in full swing, full of shops selling artistic things one always looking for, to Various cultural programs.
Overall a Vist to Shilpgram is learning for kids and art lovers and should be a part of family holidays and school trips in Udaipur.
